Debbye Turner

Since she was crowned Miss America 1990, Dr. Debbye Turner has spoken to more than 200,000 students at over 200 schools, youth organizations and college campuses. Her topics include personal excellence, unrelenting determination, goal setting, and the importance of a solid education. She strongly believes that any person has the potential for success no matter their race, socio-economic background, or gender. She uses her own life as an example of triumphing over the odds. It took seven years, eleven tries, in two states to get to and win the Miss America Pageant

Dr. Turner completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May, 1991, at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from Arkansas State University. Dr. Turner now lives in St Louis, MO. She divides her time doing veterinary public relations, youth and adult motivational speaking, and Christian speaking. Although she is not currently in clinical practice in veterinary medicine, she promotes responsible pet announcements, news features, and workshops. Dr. Turner has carried her message of pet care and motivation as far away as Rome, Italy, and Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dr. Turner serves on many local, state, and national boards including YWCA of Metro St Louis, Missouri Division of Youth Services, Children’s Miracle Network, and National Council on Youth Leadership.
